3.23 – He Welo ‘oihana (Family Business) – Page 4

Tyler Cain returns to the tower and negotiates with Steve to exchange Mom for the microfiche, in his office, in five minutes. When he gets there, Steve has a cosy little fire going in the waste paper bin.  Cain mentions that he was going to call the police, but he sees they’ve already arrived.  Which brings me to my only real beef with tonight’s episode.  How can the head of the State’s elite task force justify what he’s done tonight?  I’m pretty sure the fact that he was helping his mom wouldn’t stand up in court.

Anyway, Cain gives Steve three seconds to produce the microfiche, but there’s the usual thing of neither side trusting each other to keep their end of the bargain and so Steve throws the microfiche into the fire.  The look of horror on Mom and Cain’s face is priceless.

Steve tells Cain that if he and Mom don’t leave the building, people will come looking for them, and Cain is forced to let them walk.  I’m just waiting now for Mom to have a go at Steve for destroying the microfiche.  Here it comes.

Mom is so relieved when Steve magically makes the microfiche appear and Wade picks them up and takes them home.

Steve and Danny are having a nice chat about the McGarret exploits, Gabby, magic and secrets when Max enters the office looking upset.

A ballistics check on a bullet taken from one of the bodies at the warehouse reveals that it came from Kono’s gun.

So, the verdict on this episode?  I have to say, on first watch, I thought it was just ok.  Nothing great, silly in places.  But after watching it again, as much as Doris annoys the crap out of me, I really liked her scenes with Steve tonight. And my fave scene?  When Steve produced the microfiche with such a flourish!

The Kono/Adam storyline…boring.  And the Danny/Gabby thing…I don’t care any more.  She hasn’t been around for so long, I just don’t care. Move on, Danny!

8/10 for me.

  1. All I know is Daniel Henney looked HAWT!! except for that cliche japanese mustache!! that was horrible…..I wanted to lick my finger and wipe it off!! wtf was that? it was distracting from his pretty!
Side note I went to my God son’s communion today and when the DJ played the 5-O theme I got a little to excited…people questioned me!! I admited to nothing!!!

    1. ACA, Justine. Daniel Henney can be on-screen whenever he wants. (Preferably without sleeves.)

  2. Adam is also hot…..when is this storyline going? Where is Kono going? If she were italian it would be Kona btw…..Kono would be a boy!

    1. I’m starting to think he was on the level all along and it’s just that everything he says is so HUGELY open to interpretation that it’s seemed like he’s hiding something.

This does not, obviously, make up for the duct tape.

I don’t know. Perhaps he really is doing what he says he is doing – trying to be legit. I’ve kind of lost interest, sadly.

Ok, now it’s getting freaky. We just posted the same thing at the same time *cue Twilight Zone music*

        1. Nah, I’m just looking over your shoulder and copying what you write 😉

Loved the magic trick bit with McG – his faaaaaaaaaaaaaaace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. ACA, Westy, the first time I watched it I could kind of tell it was a good story and a fun ep but because these are my two least favourite storylines and the ep featured them so heavily, I didn’t really enjoy it as much as I might have otherwise. The second time though, I loved it a lot more. I liked Doris, I even almost felt sorry for Adam! It was daft as a brush but so fun! 🙂

It was daft as a brush indeed but I still liked it. I agree with Alicia, though, the two featured storylines no longer hold my attention. But Doris and her RED mates were hilarious.

    2. when are they going to figure out IAD isn’t the best on screen crier & quit writing Adam crying scenes???? I swear the guy has teared up 75% of the eps he’s appeared on screen.

That being said it’s a good way to distinguish Adam from Michael, whose tear ducts are probably sealed shut with a thick layer of evil cold blooded bad assery.

Yup, and caught on quite a few cameras too, by the look of it.

Agreed. We can add it to our list of McG’s Season 3 Totally Inappropriate Behaviour.

  6. Great recap Westy! I’d give it an 8/10 as well.

OK, places to go, castles to see! Back later :-).

  7. Thanks for writing this! Nice!

Did he really say ‘I dug a little deeper?’ *groan* <–even with all my rewatching, I didn't catch that.

ROFL–You were waiting for her to pull a sandwich from her backpack. 🙂

The main problem with the Kono/Adam thing, for me, is that it's so inevitable that it will end bad. They could make it work, I suppose, but it would take a huge commitment on both their parts. Everything with them has been so stagnant for so long, at least now it's moving forward a little. Mostly, their relationship has been a good source of almost-nekkid pictures. 😉

I wondered too about why Gabby waited so long to tell Danny she wasn't on the plane. It had to have a been a long flight, so she had several hours at least! No wonder he didn't want to talk to her! And yup, Grace is getting to that "parents are lame" stage for sure!

    Thanks for writing this!

    Great recap! 🙂
You’ve totally nailed it this time, at least as far as I’m concerned.
And we got an added bonus in the form of Alicia’s and Andrea_Briz’s comments here rather than IRL so we all are included (hope your castles and everything else was as great as your discussion!)

    1. The castle was fab! It had a moat!!!!!! And a maze!!!!! And a falconry display!!!!!!!! And a delicious ice cream shop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(And it was the Scene of the Crime for many of our Westy and McG Adventure pics…)

  9. Great work, Westy!

I was pretty “meh” about this episode; it felt like pretty standard calm-before-the-storm, setting-up-the-finale storytelling. But then I think about how emotionally wrenching the last episode was (child abduction, remember? There were calcified ankles. *shivers*) and I am glad for a little levity.

Christine Lahti is fantastic, and had been criminally underused, IMHO. So it was great to see her this episode. I read somewhere that the magic breath bit was improvised. (Fact-checking, anyone?) If so, that makes me love her even more. The holes in the Doris/WoFat/McG timeline are getting tough to deal with though…

As for Kono and Adam? Who cares. I want Kono and Fong! Though I could look at the Noshimuri brothers all day, so maybe I do want them to stick around…

Sorry it took me so long to read and comment. RL, you know?

    1. KONO+FONG is my mental end game, everyone else go home.

      1. HELL TO THE YES.

        1. Hell to the yes x 2. Or whatever.
